Blessed Solstice

Well gosh, the camera has been out in the car the last couple days, so I was a bad mama this Solstice, at least in terms of taking pictures. We had a lovely evening at home. I researched and made yet another menu of "yellow" foods, and got some great ideas from Circle Round. This was the menu:

Cauliflower Soup with Saffron
Lemon Garlic Chicken
Roasted Asparagus (nothing yellow there)
Vegan Fudge to represent the dark half of the year
Peach Jello to represent the light half

We had a nice short ritual - we lit lots of candles with sun themed holders and talked about how Winter Solstice is the longest night of the year. We turned out all the lights and appreciated the dark, eating some fudge. Then we talked about what we wanted to leave behind in the dark. I threw out some things like anger, impatience and scarcity. But Orion, he had... nothing. Gotta love a kid who views his life as just perfect already. :) Then we lit some candles, and I read the story from Circle Round about how the sun had gotten tired and was resting in the arms of Mother Night. So all the people light candles to help the sun's strength return. We had a special votive ready to light that would last all night and keep vigil for the return of the light. Oh, and the sunny colored jello as well of course!

Everybody got one gift - a sweet book for Akasha, Tinker Toys for Orion and an ipod docking station for Ron. We officially need the larger set of Tinker Toys lol.
