Collection of funny sayings and quotes

I have been putting all sorts of little funny and cute things the kids say on Facebook, so I wanted to go back and grab them all and put them here. :)

Akasha on the swing: "push me higher than the moon!"

Akasha: "I'm watching Little Bear with my poop." Ummmm, yeah, translation: "I don't want you to change my diaper right now". lol

Orion playing Minecraft: "I am going to build a bed outside, so I can see the stars." :)

Akasha was just helping me unload the dishwasher. She now calls measuring cups and spoons "scoop scoops" lol.

Akasha quote of the day, while the wind was blowing her hair in her face: "I can't see my eyes!"

Another Akasha quote: "I'm really sorry. It was an askident".

Orion quote of the day: His wish going through the 26 tunnel - "I would like to have friends around me always. I mean I want to be friends with everybody in the world, even the people in all the countries, and all the animals and insects too."

Orion: "My stomach is telling me I'm hungry."

Questions Questions and Sharp as a Tack

Warning: this post contains content matter regarding the upholding the Santa tradition. If you will be offended, move on. :p

Orion has been asking questions galore for a long time now, and I got to thinking it would be fun to record some of my favorites, especially since some great ones have come up just recently. I think it is also a great way of showing how unschooling "works". A friend of mine recently said, "My wife tried unschooling, but she found she didn't have the patience or drive for it." I answered, "That is the great thing about unschooling. You don't have to have patience or drive, just a willingness to answer questions!" :) So many of them I don't even know the answers to (or have forgotten them), so it is a learning process for me as well! Here are some that stand out in my memory:

How do ears work? How do eyes work? How does your heart work? How does your body turn food into energy? And on and on about the body. So glad I saved my college Physiology textbook.
What is that place? that place? that place? looking at a globe. The kid could have me read him place names for hours I think.
We have talked about the sun being bad for your eyes if you look right at it, so the other night he asked me, "Does anything bad happen to you from looking at the moon?" LOL!
Can a woman marry another woman, or does it have to be a woman and a man? Ah, those are the kinds of questions that make my day!

And then sometimes he is just downright funny in his sharpness. The mall we went to with the carousel had a Santa set up for pictures. The guy was not getting much business. He had one of those very obvious fake beards, and didn't even look very old! We have talked before about how Santa must be very busy at this time of year, so all these other people just dressed up like Santa are his special helpers. So this came up last night. I asked, "Do you think that is the real Santa or one of his helpers?" Orion gave the guy a long, suspicious look and decided, "I don't think*that* guy is even one of the helpers!" Aaaahahahaha!

Butt Potato!

I spotted this baby at Whole Foods and just had to buy it!

Orion turned it like this and said it looked like a slug. :)
Had to get a photo as it will be in our tummies tomorrow!!!

Big Orion Art Catchup

Some of these are from awhile ago and some are more recent. Orion has been fascinated with the concept of the Goddess and talks about it all the time, mainly the concept of her creating the world. I especially like questions like, "If the Goddess made the world, then who made the Goddess?" and "Why did the Goddess make mosquitoes anyway?"

One night he wanted to draw pictures of the Goddess, and he started with this one. The dots at the end of her fingers are magic he said.
Then he drew this one and wanted me to add some writing to it. He was very specific that her name was Ellic, and wanted me to write the explanation about how she can change her head shape from a triangle to a circle. The things coming out of her body are wings. :)
So then he asked me to draw one - I am no artist so just tossed something out lol - but he had an addition to make....
Um.... yeah, he was very specific that he added a yoni. I think his perception of that is a bit skewed maybe?

A few more random ones. I think it is so funny that this image of a TV is still part of our consciousness although they don't look like that anymore.
These are vikings singing in a show lol!
Spoon, plate, fork... with a sausage of course.
One of my favorite drawings of his ever because of the explanation that went along with it.... "This is a ghost in a party hat. At first the people were scared, but then they weren't, because after all, who would take a ghost in a party hat seriously?"
A rare multi color drawing. Those folks look like they are going to have a hard time eating this meal from those chairs.
Another awesome explanation on this one! I asked about it and he said, "This is the kind of picture that can be whatever you want. It's up to the person looking at it." Whoa, the kid already gets abstract art!
Some more recent Goddess. I like he put a little something on the belly, I think because that is where I had put the spiral and talked about that spot of the body also being a magic generator. I didn't get a chance to ask about the lines and dots above the head. I did notice the tongue and asked if this was the Silly Goddess and he said yes. :)
So next was a double tongued goddess - twice as silly I guess. I just love to see the themes develop in these pictures, like the magic sparkles and spirals.

Of Course, It's Always the Ghosts!

Hilarious conversation:

Orion: The Easter Bunny is NOT real!
Me: You don't think so? Who do you think hid all those eggs?
Orion: Well, I believe ghostes are real.

Oh, and he asked a pretty deep question the other day... If the Goddess made the world, then who made the Goddess? Hmmmmmmm

Drawing of Ghost

What better when the art and the funny go together? I wish I had taken a picture of this drawing as it has gone missing. You will just have to use your imagination. :) There was a ghost... in a party hat... and some people (just faces I think) off to the side. The narration: "This is a ghost in a party hat, and he is scaring these people, only they aren't really scared, because you can't take a ghost in a party hat seriously." Aaaaahahaha!

Future Teleportation Scientist?

Last night, while we were having our lie in bed before falling asleep chitchat, Orion started saying how cool it would be if we could just click on a map and go someplace. I said, "Yeah, that would be amazing!" I asked him where he would want to go, expecting an answer about someplace we had looked at on the globe or someplace he had seen on TV recently, but to my surprise he said, "I would want to go see grandpa." Sweet boy. :)

Today's Orionism

When I am all grown up, then I will be ready to go to school without you. This prompted an interesting discussion about college, and how when you are an adult you can choose to go to school just for the things that really interest you.

Face Family

My friend Don brought these stickers over on Christmas, and Orion has slowly been adding them to this door.

My favorite by far, though, is the guy with the wheat eyes. Orion said, "He is the scariest of all, because he has no mouth but can still talk!"

Orionism

Today after I hurt myself, Orion said, "I am glad you are didn't die, because then I would have just a dad, and he works alot." LOL and :( at the same time.

The Grotto at Night

Went home for a rest, then headed out to The Grotto in the evening. Sarah took a ton of pictures here as well.

Orion going down the path near the entrance. He was quite taken with the luminaries but very bothered by the ones that were not lit.
Wow! I can't believe we haven't been here before!
I don't remember what this scene was all about, but I thought it was flippin hilarious they had a backpacking stove for their fire.

And then they did....
I have always loved these big altars full of votives!

Ah, the manger scene....
So of course I had to try and explain it to Orion. His question was, "Where are the queens?" ROFL, love that kid.

More scenery.

Lovely close up of the Mother.
Too bad the camel looks like it is about to eat her head lol.

This tree was cool!
Some saint I guess. My Catholic knowledge is very low.
These were like projected lights on the building. Pretty neat.
Hey, it's Saint Nick. Even I could figure that one out!
Some religious scene.... Wow, I was raised Lutheran but guess I don't remember this stuff very well!
Not sure about this one either!
The snowflakes were projected and moving on here. It was really neat!
Inside the church.
Another lovely Mary.
Another Catholic Goddess. :) That is how I see the saints anyway.
Ditto above.
OK, this one really intrigues me! I hope somebody who is Catholic or just knows can enlighten me on who this is.
Cute little creche.
My goodness, more animals? It was an animal kind of day I guess! They had a free petting zoo, which was a nice surprise for Orion.
Orion loved the animals, but poor Akasha got knocked over in their exuberant looking for food!
Do you prefer my right side?
Or my left?
More lights.

Then on our way home, we saw some guy at a bus stop surrounded by like 10 cops with guns! Kindof blew the peaceful vibe. Yikes! Overall it was an eventful day!

And because these things deserve their own post....

In general, the last 3 posts were mostly about the photos, but there were a few things I wanted to single out separately, the first being the cute moment when Orion said, "Mommy, I like your Daddy." :) He has been very into asking questions about family lately and how different people are related. Case in point, he and Sarah were having a discussion on the way back from Disneyland. He has always called her Sissy, but apparently that didn't really translate to sister! She was telling him that they have the same mom, and she grew in my tummy just like he did, and he just waved his hand at her and said, "I don't believe in all that stuff!" Um, huh?!

But there was so much more from this trip, mainly from my dad. He has always been into telling stories, but he is even more into looking back at the past right now. I worry about that a little to be honest, but it was still interesting to hear him talk about so many things from his past I had never heard about. Such as...

The story of him jumping on train when he wa in 1st grade. It wasn't moving at the time, and he thought it would be cool to climb up the ladder. His dad was getting off work around that time, and yikes, the train started to move! His dad jumped on the train and grabbed him... then he beat him all the way home. :( Guess that was how it was in those days mostly.

When he was about in 5th grade, he saved a kid from drowning. The amazing thing was, he didn't officially know how to swim himself! He said he had played around in the water alot, but never really swam, but when he saw the little kid, he decided he could figure it out, and he did!

His first child with his first wife was stillborn. How heartbreaking. She was never talked about when I was growing up, but I knew there had been another wife. They went on to have 4 children together, but then he found out she cheated on him, and that was it.

My mom took me to a baby swim class! OK, so this was kindof a huge one because I had NO idea. I didn't even know they had those back then, and my parents didn't seem like the type. However, I always have known I could swim before I could walk. It is one of the favorite family stories about tossing me in the pool when friends would come over just to shock them. But I always assumed they taught me, so this was just weird to find out!

And this isn't really a family story, but an interesting one, and it was about people I knew personally. A guy my dad worked with, and who used to come over sometimes, just up and left his wife and moved to New York when he was 70! It was a surprising story to me because they always seemed like such a good fit, both happy and upbeat people, and she was a really vibrant and attractive lady. But I guess he felt like he hadn't lived yet. Apparently he showed up a little while later with a young girlfriend to collect some of his things, and this was the part that floored me: the wife was totally fine with it all and just wished him well. Dang, I think I would be bitter. But who knows, maybe they had more of a platonic relationship and it was a totally mutual split. Just a slice of life story!

Hahaha!

O: (drawing a picture he felt he made a mistake on) Man, I was trying to draw a pirate, but this guy has two eyes.
Me: Pirates do have two eyes.... Just color a patch over one and draw in some string.
O: Oh, never mind, I'll just make this one a human instead.

Ummmmmm, OK.

In the car today....

O: Will the earth live forever?
Me: (pondering all the ways of looking at that and wondering what he was getting at) Hmmm, yeah, I suppose it will.
O: What if i giant meteor crashes into it?!
Me: Ah. Well, there really aren't meteors that big I don't think, and they usually mostly burn up in the atmosphere. (And deciding not to go into the fact that there would probably be *something* left, even if there was no life on it.)
O: Well, better call the president!

Hmmm, does he know something we don't?

Few Random Orion Funnies

I asked Orion if he could go get me something, and he said, "Sure!" Then a pause, then, "A man's gotta do what a man's gotta do." ROFL, wonder where he heard that one!

Later that day....
Orion: What does, "Don't have a teat mean?"
Me: I'm really not sure...
Orion: It means, "Enjoy your dinner!"

Do you have it yet...?
...
...
Bon appetit!
hahahahaha

Life is Goooood 2009

Wow, I really didn't take many pictures this year, but I had a great time. I reconnected with friends I knew and did much better at meeting some new folks as well. Some of the talks were really great. I managed to get some good ideas for staying centered with sparkly kids, and maybe, just maybe, got some inspiration about it being OK to let my house stay messy. :) It was also really interesting realizing we are now one of those RU families compared to some others. How different we are now from just a couple years ago! Ron really enjoyed the Dads' Group again. Said there was alot of brutal honesty and great support for "newbies". I liked a creativity chat I went to. That is just the area I have been wanting to get back to and make some time for myself.

Here are a few of the photos I did manage to get!

Cute one of my friend Emily and her daughter.
Row and my Crocs which are now lost! Funny because Ron bought them at LIG 2 years ago, and now they were lost at this LIG.
Nametag munching.
Akasha looking like she is not too sure about melon.
The drum circle.
Akasha checking out some percussion.
And I do have a couple videos of the drum circle!

Orion and Ron were actually not there for much of it, so I don't really have any kid stories to tell. Even when he was there, he had a challenging time this year. He has had such a great time in the past, but there were alot of conflicts this year. Not really sure why - maybe just cumulative lack of sleep these past couple months. Maybe it was Lyla's therory about "alpha dog" boys clashing when they come together. But I do have one favorite memory of the whole weekend courtesy of Orion!

It was the last day when Ron was loading up the car. I was in the toy room with both kids when Orion said he wanted to go to the bathroom alone. It was all the way at the other end of the main hall, and he had his one piece skeleton suit on.... So off he went while I hung out near the door so I could keep one eye on the baby and one on the hallway. I was just wondering how long I would wait before checking on him when he came into view. Here comes my awesome boy, stark naked, running down the main hallway of The Red Lion, twirling his skeleton suit over his head. LMAO as they say! And couldn't have been a more appreciative crowd!

Two Orions!

Orion said something pretty hilarious this morning. I told him we had an egg hunt to go to, but he is a slow mover in the morning and mostly likes to lounge around and watch TV a bit. So he decided he wished there were two Orions. He said, "I wish there was another Orion I could send to go get eggs and bring them back to me." Clever boy. I wish I has another me to send to the store sometimes too!

Fuzzy Logic?

Orion said something so hilarious last night - have to write it down before I forget! He told Ron he wanted him to eat unhealthy foods so he could play with him. Huh? Orion explained, "You are always telling me to eat healthy foods so I can grow up big and strong, so I want you to eat unhealthy foods, because then you will get small like me and we can play together." Awwww

Guess that isn't fuzzy logic at all - pretty sound!

Legos and Sinatra

Just a bit more around the house stuff. Orion loves to play with Daddy's helmet, and today I found this scene on the rocking chair.
Later that day, we made some impromptu muffins because Orion found some candles and wanted to pretend they were little cakes.
The batter came out very thick, and he was being quite patient waiting for it to drop into the cups. And then... something unexpected and hilarious happened. Orion started singing, "Fly me to the moon, dada dada dada dada." So he only new the first few words, but he had the tune down exactly. My boy cracks me up!
