This story was SO adorable, I just had to write it down for the sake of memory. It was like something straight out of a movie!
I went to church today to be a helper at the Solstice ritual they did for the kids. In the beginning, we went around a circle and asked everybody how they celebrate at this time of year. The kids said all manner of things: We celebrate Winter, Hanukkah, Solstice, Christmas, sometimes a combination. Near the end of the sharing, it was the turn of a young girl, she looked about 4. Our RE director said to her, "How about you? What do you celebrate in your home?" She smiled, and with no hesitation she said, "We celebrate every day!"
Blessed Be. I hope she never loses that magick.
And I hope you find it, if you are looking.
I know I am....
Happy Solstice.

Goddesses Among Us
I have been participating in a 4 part class on Goddess spirituality at my church over the last couple months, and we just had a final ritual in which the participants all wore masks they made to represent the goddess they chose to work with. Look, we have an aura!
So interesting I used the auto timer for this and got this glow. It looks like it is emanating from the altar! From left to right we have Yemaya, Kwan Yin, Sophia, Hecate, Inanna, Ariadne and Isis. It is hard to see in this picture, but the Hecate mask was just brilliant! She actually took a second mask and cut in half, attaching the two halves on either side of the main part of the mask. The other two faces were painted black and red, so it captured the triformis aspect perfectly! All of them were great, and almost everybody wore things to add to the energy. It was a great night!

UU Family Camp
We went to a Unitarian Universalist Family Camp for Fourth of July weekend. I went up on Thursday with just the kids. Not sure what I was thinking LOL, but we survived.
One thing the camp is known for is their giant slip n slide. It wasn't open the first night, but there were some puddles at the bottom a bunch of kids were playing in...
...until they got told they weren't supposed to be on it unless it was officially open. Oops. At least they had a good time before they got busted:
Really cool moth we found hanging out on a bathroom door. I have never seen a moth so green!
There was a bunch of programming, but Orion was pretty much not interested in any of it. This was one of the very rare moments where he actually went around a group of people, and I think it was only because some folks had discovered a little snail crawling around on some moss.
Said snail!
He was also totally fascinated with watching this other mama add beads to her necklace.
He spent alot of time around these baby trees. Not sure why...
Another random "Orion needs a haircut" picture.
Best camp buddy! They were camped right near us, and they are just two peas in a pod. At one point, they were flinging huge handfuls of sand at each other and just cracking up about it. By the last day, whenever they saw each other, they would run into a long embrace. So cute!
Random wrestling silliness on the cot.

Orion up top with a very specific face he asked me to take a picture of.
The biggest sandbox ever!!!! Or so it seemed to the kids. This is where Orion spent most of his time.
Going down to the creek was also a hit.

And looking for rocks to...
...throw in, over and over and over. I swear the boy could throw rocks in water all day long!
Although, sometimes if you throw rocks too long, you almost miss out on the candy hand out!
Phew, just it time.
Akasha made lots of new friends!
Still working on her social skills...

In her Fourth of July dress! I think this is the first red, white and blue article of clothing I have ever liked! I might even put her in it again.

The scene at the pool.
Ron decided to brave the slip n slide for one trip down with Orion even though he could barely walk after a night on a thin mattress.
Loooong walk back up the hill.
Baby pool time for Akasha.

It was a good time, despite stepping on a bee on my birthday, and neat to meet lots of UUs from other congregations. I think my favorite new thing from the weekend was this grace song:

Crazy, eventful, surreal day.
I guess I'll start at the beginning. Orion has been complaining about a tooth hurting for a few days. It seems to be worse in the morning, then go away, and he also hasn't complained about brushing at night, so I didn't think it was anything major. He didn't complain at all this morning, so when I called Dr. Pike's office, I took the regular next available appointment, which was over a week away. Then around 11:30, he started screaming about it again, so I decided to see if they could squeeze him in earlier, and they said to go ahead and bring him in today.
And... my little boy has a crown in his mouth. It still seems totally surreal to me. Turned out one of his molars was so decayed he needed a pulpotomy and a crown. I knew I should have gotten him in sooner, but I didn't think anything major was going on. It turned out they had the extra time today, so they figured they would see what they could get done. The amazing thing is, he just laid there and let them do all the work like it was nothing! He had a little plastic snake he was holding and just looked at that pretty much the whole time. He got nitrous to get his shots and then walked around while getting numb and got right back up on the table for the work. I was stunned. At one point he did hold up his hand like they told him he could if he wanted them to stop, and he said, "Excuse me, Dr. Pike, this is really good music." My sweet, sweet, boy. The weird thing is, he cried almost the whole way home. I think it was the feeling of the coming out of numbness. I kept asking if it actually hurt or just felt strange, and he said it hurt, but I am not sure he really knew what I meant. He was fine later and the rest of the night.
So phew, as if that wasn't enough of a day, we also sold the Vanagon tonight. I am really bummed about it, but it was the right thing to do. The seatbelts aren't right for kids, but the bigger issue was that it was probably going to cost a bundle to convert it to diesel. This way, we should be able to pick up a diesel for me for even cheaper and get started using biodiesel right away. Also, the girl that bought it was really cool. She has been to Country Fair every year of her life and will really use it to travel around to festivals and such. She is an LMT, and her mom is a midwife. I guess I can still turn a boring wagon into a hippiemobile. Right?
Then later in the evening, I went to my first class of Cakes for the Queen of Heaven at church. They used to offer this every year in Thousand Oaks, but I never got around to taking it. The class is huge! It is exciting to see so much support for something like this, but it does make it a bit less personal. I am still looking forward to all the classes!
